Have questions about the Thyme 4 Friends community?
We don't want any questions to hold you or your senior back from receiving the socialization, stimulation, and support you need.
Here are a few commonly asked questions, but if yours isn't listed, please reach out to us at any time. We want you to feel comfortable and informed to have the best experience possible.
Q: What do I need to participate in the Zoom classes?
A: A computer, an iPad, or a phone can be used to join our classes.
Technology can feel somewhat overwhelming for many, so you are not alone. But we have found that even for a novice, once you've attended the third class the routine is set and easy to follow. Additionally, most of our seniors have a family member or caregiver who turns the device on for them, and then they are ready to enjoy the hour ahead.
You can also visit our Zoom Guide for additional information about this platform.
Q: What happens if I miss a class?
A: Because we offer 15 classes each week, rescheduling is ever so simple. No more than a day's notice is needed, and we'll help you join at your next available time.
Q: Are there plans for T4F to host an in-person adult day program?
A: The simple answer is no. We believe in the accessibility of in-home care and that our service provides a way to keep our seniors connected to their friends and community while living in their homes.
It has been interesting to see that our group is encouraging one another to go for walks or listen to a particular song between their classes. Some are even writing a joke or a poem, or taking a photo from their porch that they share with the group. Relationships are blooming and growing in ways that spark a renewed sense of hope and joy for life from the comforts of home and family.
Q: Can this program benefit my family member who is not comfortable meeting new people?
A: For those who are more introverted or like familiarity and routine, these classes can feel safe and natural. While in their own environment, it often feels as if they are already meeting others who share their interests.
Our experience has shown that everyone enjoys greeting one another and listening to the conversations that flow with contentment and satisfaction. It's always exciting to see everyone participating in ways that are comfortable for them. A smile and a nodding head can speak volumes.
We have also seen some of the most reserved seniors come out of their shells after they start attending classes, but rest assured, each person can participate in the way that's best for them.
We encourage everyone to give us a try and see if we are a good fit for them. Generally by the third class, seniors start anticipating the next time they can show up to chat with their friends.
Q: I see that you play bingo. Why?
A: After working with the senior community for 25 years, even Marlene is amazed at this phenomenon. She has realized that it is not the game itself that has a draw to 99% of those she's served.
Most even say that they never liked playing games. And if they did play any type of game, it certainly wasn't bingo. But here's the thing: This community of seniors value independence. They all were involved in math skills of some sort and feel comfortable with numbers. And this group certainly values achievement.
BINGO! It is an independent activity, and it allows tracking 25 random numbers. Plus, we see and hear the accomplishment that is felt when someone yells, "BINGO!"
We call it challenge bingo and even sing a song after each bingo is announced and the winning numbers are read out. If Marlene hadn't seen this with her own eyes, she would have a hard time believing it, too.
Q: What, if any, benefit will I see in my family member?
A: Here is where it gets so exciting! You will see a renewed sparkle in their eyes. You will hear and feel their lighthearted laughter and renewed zest for living.
Connections and memories are the real gifts we give to one another. T4F is here for that very real and very basic reason.
As we advance in age, we hope to advance in wisdom, love, and giving. We also advance with a slower pace to life and seemingly extra time on our hands. Just as poet John Donne said "no man is an island," so too is it that no family is an island.
While growing your own family, building your career, strengthening your own personal connections, or preparing to become empty nesters, you may have found yourself also supporting and even providing care for your elderly loved ones. Your plate may be stacked extra high right now. We at T4F are here to offer support that will not only impact your senior, but yourself as well.
As you see them being rejuvenated in their heart and mind, we fully expect for you too to feel the sense of accomplishment in caring well for them, and the hope that with the help of your community, you will survive and thrive as well.
Q: How often should my loved one attend to get the benefits of joining the Zoom classes?
A: Experience has taught us that what is most critical for the benefits to be felt and seen is consistency. Whether your loved one can attend one or two classes each week or participate in multiple classes, the real key to success is making their attendance a genuine priority.
At first it may seem like it's just one more thing to add to that "to do" list, but that will soon evolve into a giving act for yourself and your loved one.
Q: How can I be sure that Thyme 4 Friends is the right choice for us?
A: Here goes the short answer: Just try it.
This is one reason why our subscription system is based on monthly installments, not commitments. Start with a basic subscription of one to three classes each week and see how it goes for you and your family.
Since we launched in 2020, everyone has kept their basic subscription with the exception of those who have added multiple days, sometimes adding a day multiple times.
We do everything possible to ensure a terrific experience. Give us the opportunity to show you how life is better with Thyme 4 Friends.
Q: Does insurance cover these classes?
A: It's possible, but every insurance plan is different. Please take a look at our Insurance page for more information and ask the advice of your insurance agent.
